ABOUT AERKE
- A collection of aerketypes by Eivor Vik -
I am an architect by profession and for the last decade I have worked as an architect and a designer. My everyday work is highly digital. The projects I work with are most often realized by other people's crafts and skills, usually with a long timespan from start to completion. Maybe this is why I spend more and more of my spare time crafting.
Wheather it is knitting, sewing or woodwork; creating something beautiful and useful with my own hands gives me a sense of flow whilst working.
Crafting is my creative sanctuary, where I can realize a project from start to finish, all within a short time frame, compared to my professional work. For instance; being able to turn some skeins of yarn into a wardrobe classic in a couple of evenings gives the fantastic feeling of mastery; a feeling of happiness that you can’t buy.
To maximize the feeling of flow I prefer simple designs, adding just a few, often expressive, elements to give the aerketype a significant look. I strive to make patterns that are simple and easy to understand for people at any skill level, still providing a smooth process for the crafter. With Aerke I aspire to showcase how less truly can be more!
Aerke is a collection of my DIY patterns, so that I can share the joy of crafting with you. The name "Aerke" refers to my background as an architect, the aestetics of my designs, and the fact that it resembles the word archetype; meaning “original pattern from which copies are made”.
Welcome to Aerke - I hope you enjoy my aerketypes !
